Jyrkki MAX Multi-Cuvette Gas Exchange System

Parallel, non-destructive gas-exchange measurements for larger plants

Measure whole-plant or single-leaf photosynthesis, transpiration and stomatal conductance across multiple larger plants under precisely controlled environmental conditions. Designed for cereals, tomatoes, ferns and similar species, Jyrkki MAX accelerates experimental workflows while delivering directly comparable data from every cuvette.

Details

Jyrkki MAX is a stationary multi-cuvette gas-exchange system for parallel, non-destructive measurements of larger plants, whole shoots or single leaves.

At a glance

  • Four larger-volume cuvettes measured in parallel

  • Whole-plant or single-leaf measurement formats

  • Two-minute sampling per cuvette

  • Repeated measurements of intact plant material

What Jyrkki MAX measures

  • Net CO₂ exchange (photosynthesis, Anet)

  • Water-vapour exchange (transpiration, E)

  • Stomatal conductance (gs)

Environmental control and treatments

  • System-wide temperature and relative humidity / VPD

  • Per-cuvette CO₂, ozone and white-light intensity or darkness

  • Exogenous hormone treatments applied by spraying

  • Stimuli applied simultaneously or sequentially

How measurements work

Incoming air is divided between reference and measurement lines. Jyrkki MAX compares the air entering and leaving each cuvette to quantify CO₂ and water-vapour exchange, then calculates Anet, E and gs.

System-wide environmental ranges

  • Relative humidity: 30–80%

  • Air temperature: 5–40 °C

Per-cuvette stimulus ranges

  • CO₂ concentration: 50–1,500 ppm

  • White light: 0–500 µmol m⁻² s⁻¹, or darkness

  • Ozone stimulus available

Cuvette dimensions

  • Diameter: 106 mm

  • Height: 156 mm

  • Volume: 1,376.66 cm³

Sampling and airflow

  • 2 minutes per cuvette: 1 minute reference + 1 minute sample

  • Airflow rate: 1.68 mmol s⁻¹

Measurement accuracy

  • CO₂: ±0.1 ppm

  • H₂O: ±0.1 ppm

  • Air temperature: ±0.1 °C

Research applications

  • Cereal, tomato and fern gas-exchange studies

  • Genotype and treatment comparisons

  • Stomatal CO₂ and VPD responses

  • Ozone, light and hormone-response experiments

  • Long-duration measurements across days

Installation and support

  • System footprint: 2 × 1 m

  • Requires access to building ventilation

  • Ozone upgrades and maintenance are available

Frequently asked questions

How many plants can Jyrkki MAX measure?

Up to four larger-volume cuvettes can be measured in parallel. Sampling takes two minutes per cuvette: one minute for reference air and one minute for sample air.

Which plants can be measured?

Jyrkki MAX is designed for whole plants or single leaves from larger species, including cereals, tomatoes and ferns. Each cuvette is 106 mm in diameter and 156 mm high.

Which conditions are controlled independently?

CO₂, ozone and white-light intensity can be applied per cuvette. Temperature and relative humidity are controlled across the full system.

Are the measurements destructive?

No. Intact plant material can be monitored repeatedly, reducing handling effects and supporting longer experiments.

What does the system report?

CO₂ and water-vapour exchange are used to calculate net photosynthesis, transpiration and stomatal conductance.

What is required for installation?

The system occupies approximately 2 × 1 m and requires access to the building’s ventilation system. Contact Plant Invent to discuss configuration, delivery and installation.

Built for controlled, long-duration studies

Jyrkki MAX can monitor larger plants throughout the day or over consecutive days while environmental conditions and experimental stimuli are precisely controlled.
